Import data

You can use the import function to restore a previous backup or transfer data to a new Vault.

Start import

  1. Go to „Export“ in the sidebar
  2. Scroll to the section „Import“
  3. Click on „Select file“
  4. Select your JSON export file
  5. Click on „Start import“

Supported formats

What is imported?

  • ✅ All transactions
  • Product catalog
  • Storage locations
  • ✅ Settings

Import options

Option 1: Replace

All existing data in the Vault is replaced by the imported data.

Option 2: Merge

Imported data is added to the existing data. Duplicates are recognized and skipped.

⚠️ Attention with „Replace“:
This option irrevocably deletes all existing data in the Vault. Create a backup beforehand!

Frequent use cases

Restore backup

  1. Unlock your Vault
  2. Import the JSON file
  3. Select „Replace“
  4. Confirm

Migrate Vault

  1. Export the old Vault as JSON
  2. Create a new Vault (new password possible)
  3. Import the JSON file

Merge data

  1. Import the JSON file
  2. Select „Merge“
  3. Duplicates are recognized automatically

Troubleshooting

Import fails?

  • Check whether the file is a valid JSON file
  • Check whether the file originates from Precious Metals Vault
  • Try an older export
💡 Tip:
The import takes place locally in your browser. Your data is never sent to the server unencrypted.
